Mother of the Bride: Three Tips to Look Your Best in the Wedding Photos

As the mother of the bride, you will want to look your best and most beautiful for the forever wedding photos. Be sure to use as much time as the bride has allowed for the planning of her wedding to take care of the details of your look and overall beauty.

The following are three tips for the mother of the bride to consider when planning for your daughter's big day and your special time as well. Make the time and effort now and until the wedding to orchestrate your perfect, most glamorous look.

1. Decide on the Style of Your Dress

As soon as the bride has picked out her dress and the bridesmaid dresses, it's your turn to pick out your dress or outfit for the wedding. By that time, the colors and the formality of the wedding will have been decided.

First and foremost, the formality of the wedding will be your primary guide for choosing your outfit. Is it formal or semi-formal?

Secondly, of course, you will need to consider your body type and your personal style when choosing your outfit. You want to feel like yourself and your personal best that day.

Lastly, the wedding colors will come into play. Choose your most flattering color while keeping the wedding color palette in mind.

Typically, the mother of the bride as well as the groom's mother will want to avoid any hue of white, red or black.

Also, avoid any pastel color that will make you look washed out in the pictures.

2. Don't Dress Too Sexy or Too Frumpy

Many mothers of the bride fall into two categories of mistakes - either they dress too frumpy or dress a little too sexy. It appears in "too sexy" (whether it's intentional or not) that they are competing with their daughter. Striking the right balance of modern, chic and age appropriate is the goal for your outfit, hair and makeup. 'Chic' is probably the best word to keep in mind while shopping.

Personal shoppers as well as makeup artists are excellent resources for these tasks if there is any doubt in your mind as to any part of your look.

3. Take Pictures of Yourself in Your Wedding Day Outfit Ahead of Time

Before you make your final outfit decision, take photos of yourself in it along with your planned style for your hair and makeup. A picture is worth a thousand words! The photo will show you if you are going to photograph well in the color you've picked out, whether your makeup needs tweaking and how your hair is going to look with your outfit.

In addition to showing you how the outfit looks on you (be sure to include the shoes you plan to wear!), the photo will show you where you need to make changes in your makeup - too light, too much, right color of lipstick, right color of blush? All of those things that will show up in the wedding photos. It will also help you decide your final hairstyle - an updo or loose - that looks best for the occasion.

By following these steps, you can save yourself time, and alleviate any worries ahead of time - well before the big day arrives. You can rest assured that you will look your best from head to toe and enjoy the planning and festivities with ease.
